The exterior scenes of To The Manor Born, the popular sitcom of the late 1970s and early 80s, were filmed on location at the 1,000-acre Cricket St Thomas estate in Chard, Somerset. Cricket House stood in for the manor itself – known in the show as Grantleigh House.

Penelope Keith played Audrey fforbes-Hamilton, an upper-class lady forced to move out of her beloved manor house, and into its coach house, after her husband’s death. Peter Bowles, as Richard DeVere, was the new-money millionaire who bought the manor, and the two enjoyed a love-hate relationship until finally marrying in the final episode.Cricket House has now been turned into a hotel, and is part of the Warner Leisure Group.
